History

Lionel Tomkins Signs as the company now stands was set up in 1953, as the name suggests by Lionel Tomkins. Lionel began in 1934, when he joined Alec Holton in Luton as a 14 year old apprentice signwriter and coachpainter. It was with Alec that he learned the basic skills of signwriting and many of the ethics and good business practice that he later passed on to Paul Tomkins his son and current owner.
Although the days of signwriting were mostly in the past, the company continued to evolve by purchasing a state of the art computer printing system in the early 1990’s and diversifying into other areas of the sign industry.
The company continues today more than 50 years after its inception with a wide variety of customers from a wide range of industries that includes some distinguished names such as Eastenders, Luton Town Football Club and the National Trust.
